What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy focusses on supporting people to do what they want and need to do in their daily life using everyday life activities (occupations) to promote health, well-being, and participation in everyday activities and relationships. This might look different for different people and ages.

It might include:

  • Taking care of self (self care)

  • Managing household tasks

  • Getting out and about in the community

  • Work or volunteer activities

  • Recreational activities

  • Learning at kindergarten, school or higher education

  • Connection with others

  • Understanding and managing emotions and mental wellbeing
